BDPA Student Members and Journalism Students recently conducted a tour of the new U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) in Washington, D.C. with local BDPA Chapters and bdpatoday’s 
Popular Technology TV
(PTTV) crew.
Vice Admiral Manson Brown

, a District of Columbia native, provided keynote remarks to BDPA Student Members, High-School Computer Competition (HSCC) participants, and chaperons. VADM Brown is the U.S. Coast Guard’s Deputy Commandant for Mission Support.

Attendees were made aware of a new environmentally sustainable green roof design for the entire CGHQ complex facility currently represents one of the most ambitious green roofs ever constructed within the United States. Moreover, U.S. Coast Guard command, control communications, computers, information technology (C4IT) systems, electronic security systems, and audio/visual conference systems are seamlessly integrated into the new building’s design.

During the chapter’s Advance Planning Briefing for Interns (APBi) session, attendees quickly discovered qualified students may earn up to
$3600 per month
as a junior or senior in college with full U.S. Coast Guard scholarships while attending Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU’s) and Minority Serving Institutions.

   

Ms. Donna Walker-Ross, Coast Guard’s Office of Diversity & Inclusion and Ms. Carla Grantham of the Coast Guard’s Human Resources Liaison office, were event coordinators and Mistress of Ceremonies respectively.
